"We are amalgamating"

An announcement has been made that will impact on the Douglas region's business community, and without a polling booth in sight.

The Mossman Chamber of Commerce will merge with the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce in a bid to form a single strong entity representing businesses in the entire Douglas region.

The Mossman Chamber has endured uncertainty in recent years, with an attempt to reinvigorate the organisation early in 2012 falling flat.

"We've been talking about it for a while, and we've decided that it makes good synergies of resources and it's going to be beneficial to all members," said Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce president Phoebe Kitto.

Travis Schumacher from Raine and Horne Mossman & Port Douglas will take a position on the committee and will be the primary contact for Mossman businesses.

"I just wanted to make sure that Mossman still had a voice because it's a very important part of the area," Mr Schumacher said.

"I want to get it out to the Mossman people that if there's something they want me to bring up at a meeting, if there's something they feel strongly about, I'm the voice for them if they want me to be."

Businesses with a current Mossman Chamber of Commerce membership will now be members of the merged entity.
