Toads in a hole

This week saw the Muddies Blues up against the Mulgrave Toads at home in the second game of the double header.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Sam Hodgson and Keith Taylor opened up and again set up the innings perfectly with an opening stand of 48 off 9 overs.

Taylor departed on 14 due to an unlucky LBW, and Nathan King arrived at the crease scoring his 22 runs quickly, putting on a 47 run partnership with Hodgson and keeping the run rate at over six an over.

King then fell with the score at 95 bringing the skipper, Simon Cody, to the crease. A short time later Hodgson brought up his first 50 for the year after scoring three 40s in the last four weeks.

Having bought up that milestone he then went on the attack hitting a series of sixes until he chased one too many to be caught out for 68 off 50 balls to record the highest score for the Blues this summer.

Cody then became the rock. Logan Marsh scored a solid 23 off 20 balls after a slowish start before getting bowled. Rob Gaul and Nick Tither also unselfishly collected a few runs late in the innings to push the score to 192. Cody was left on 39 not out off of 30 balls.

With Dangerous Dave out injured after a rope swing incident it was up to Nathan King and the Spinner Vikas Chandra to open the attack.

Chandra bowled exceptionally well and was unlucky not to have a couple of wickets after a dropped catch and a few near misses. He finished with 0/13 off of his allotted 6 overs which kept the run rate down making it really difficult for the Toads to chase the healthy total.

The team were in high spirits after the solid start. Nathan King collected 1/13 off 4, Garry Postans 1/23 off 6, Sam Hodgson 2/15 off 4 overs (earning the 3 points for Man of the Match).

Nick Tither bowled well for 0/11 off 3 overs, Logan Marsh ended with 1/24 after unluckily going for 12 in the last over of the innings as the batsman was teeing off chasing his fifty (actually being stranded on 49), while Simon Cody took 1/4 off 2 overs and collected 1 point in the votes.

Mulgrave Toads only managed to make 104 leaving the Muddies 88 run winners and in touch with the top of the table coming into the Big Grudge match this week against the Greens who are sitting in first spot.

This week’s game will be at the Port Douglas oval kicking off at 1pm and is sure to be a cracker. Make sure you come down and watch what will be a very entertaining game.
