Taipans win. Nicky G disappointed
I’ve never been so disappointed for the Taipans to win a Reptile Rumble. There’s 15 seconds left and we have the ball. Scores are locked at 75 apiece.
The second half has been nothing but great entertainment from both sides and what does Cam Gliddon do with 10 seconds left? Hits a trey from the corner which would turn out to be the match winner!
So why am I dirty?
I’m sitting in the best seats in the house (thanks Michael and Helen) and I wanted overtime! I wanted to see Loughton hit more big shots and basically more all round action from what had been a great spectacle.
Alex Loughton was huge in this win and put the team on his back as he halted the Crocs' 14 point lead and singlehandedly dragged us back into the contest. It would have been fitting for him to hit the match winner but Gliddon was in the right spot at the right time for that one.
Jamar Wilson and evergreen Aaron Grabau were solid all game again and I actually think ‘Bobo’ is a bit like a good bottle of plonk – getting better with age. You know you rate a player when it’s going to go down the wire and you're screaming for the coach to get him back out there.
Fearney must have been thinking the same thing as he was another good option to hit the game winner. His defence is his trademark but his offensive game has improved immensely. I love his aggression to score and he’s shooting the ball at a very good clip these days.
Cairns are still on 14 losses which is the same as fourth placed Wollongong which means playoffs are still a chance. We still need to be near flawless, however, and with Perth coming to us this Friday night there’s no bigger test to see if the boys are worthy of the post season.
If we can stop Kevin Lisch (put Grabau on him all game) we are a chance – Taipans in another thriller for this one, by 2.
Other games for round 21:
NZ vs Adelaide, NZ by 15
Melb vs Gong, Melb by 8
Sydney vs TV, TV by 5
Biggest game of the season Friday night – go get em’ boys!
