Revenge is sweet for U12 Muddies

by Sharon Doble

Playing Atherton Scorpions for the second time in a row, Port Douglas Muddies were keen to turn around last week's defeat.

Captain Nicolas Raynor lost the toss and the Scorpions sent Muddies into bat. Both openers Ashton Davenport (2) and Phoenix Darlington (0) lost their wicket in the opening overs leaving it up to Ryan Stanaway (14) and Vincent Killeen (16) to put in a solid partnership, both batsman retiring.

Xanda Darlington (2) batted at Number 5 and he was caught quickly by Luke Twomey who was the Douglas substitute for the Scorpions team. The next two batsman also retired, Nick Raynor (12) and Curtis White (10).

Josh Edward (0) was extremely unlucky to be caught off a thick outside edge by a diving Luke Twomey and bowled by Tex McDowall, both players subbing for the Atherton team. Conner White (0) got caught outside his crease, hesitating on a second run.

Ryan Doble (16) got caught out on a full length ball and Nathan Deuble (1) also fell victim to the ruthless Atherton bowling, falling to a good length just whisking one of the bails off. The
Douglas Muddies ended with a total team score of 107.

Our bowling was spearheaded by Curtis White (2-10) and well backed up by Ryan Doble (1-3), Conner White (1-5) and Ryan Stanaway (1-7). Other bowling figures saw Josh Edward (0-3), Vincent Killeen (0-4), Aston Davenport (0-5) and Nathan Deuble (0-11) perform well.

A strong team effort in the field made all the difference this week. In particular Josh Edward with a diving catch and two run outs, resulting in Atherton Scorpions getting a total of 101 giving Muddies a well-deserved victory.
