Speculation that a buyer has been found for the Port Douglas Marina is premature, according to the Marina's general manager, Peter Jones.

Speaking with The Newsport on Friday, Mr Jones said that while there were at least two companies interested in the Marina and its assets, "nothing is over the line."

But in an interview with Radio Port Douglas last week, Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning hinted a deal was imminent.

"I expect we should be in a position within the next few days, within the next seven days, to make an announcement on that (the Marina sale)," he said.

According to a Council spokesperson, CRC has no formal role in the sale.

"It is between the State and Meridian. While the Mayor has had positive feedback recently with regard to progression of the sale, Council is still awaiting an announcement from the State."
