Best Photo Competition winners announced

Variety is the spice of life, and the winning photos in January's Best Photo Competition offer exactly that.

January provided one of the most impressive collections of photos in the competition's history, which merely adds to the accolade of being dubbed the Best Photo Competition winner.

After agonising over their decision, the judges have given that honour to Ellen Wilson's 'The Season Of Red.' Well done Ellen, you've won a 30cm x 46cm acrylic print valued at $130 PLUS $50 cash thanks to Perrin Clarke at Imagebank Australia.

Someone who is obviously at home on the water, and who will spend a relaxing evening with a friend on a Sailaway Sunset Sail, is Krystal Wright who took January's runners-up photo titled '80 Feet Up.' Congrats Krystal and enjoy your cruise with Sailaway!

Our judges couldn't decide an outright favourite for third, so have thrown caution to the wind and squeezed two winners onto the podium.

Annette Cunnington's 'Letters To The Country' and Tod Walker's 'Flooded' depict two very different scenes, Annette's a dry, dusty road with rusty letterboxes, and Tod's...well, I'm sure there's a road under there somewhere. Annette and Tod each receive an Italian recipe book and MasterChef apron thanks to Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.

A photo extremely unlucky not to place higher was Shay Bourne's 'Feather Creek', but it was a favourite with voters who banded together to earn Shay the Most Popular Photo award. Shay has won a $20 shopping card thanks yet again to Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.

The prizes keep coming with Ruth Ross netting herself the Editor's Choice award for her 'Casting For Bait.' The photo, which also polled well in the Most Popular Photo competition, has scored Ruth a $50 meal voucher at magnificent Seabean Cafe Restaurant.

Winners can call The Newsport on 4099 5122 to arrange collection of your prizes. Please note, you have 30 days from today to collect your prize.

Do you agree with the judges? Tell us your thoughts below, or on our Best Photo Competition page.

We've had a great number of photos already entered into February's Best Photo Competition, so if you'd like a piece of the action send up to four photos (each with a title and your name) to competitions@thenewsport.com.au.

Good luck!
