Funding boost for Mossman Show

The Mossman District Show Society will receive almost $11,000 in funding through a local government grants program, designed to ensure communities throughout Queensland continue to host their signature events.

The Cooktown District Show Society will receive $5000 in funding from the same program.

“The Mossman and Cooktown Shows give people from across the region an annual opportunity to come together and enjoy what’s great about this area,” said Member for Cook, David Kempton.

“They are both major highlights on the social calendar and showcase the best of what the community has to offer, while providing fantastic family friendly fun.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the money was part of the Newman Government’s push to empower local communities and strengthen regional Queensland.

“There are more than 130 agricultural shows in Queensland and more than half of those are in areas that were savaged during this year’s floods,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Most of the other areas are now being hit by drought, so more than ever, it’s important to prioritise what needs to be done to maintain a strong heartbeat in the bush.”

The Mossman Show is held annually in July.
