Skills on show at Port Courts
Douglas Junior Netball started Week 2 at Port courts with the 10/Under Beach Babes playing the Young Stars.
The teams have settled well after the first week, and the Young Stars started strongly with plenty of opportunities at goal. Kacy Baxter was excellent in Goal Attack and Myah Lowenstein-Jones just as strong at the other end of the court.
The Coral Deen Team Spirit award went to Mia Schrieber and Abbie White and the Coral Deen Most Improved award went to Courtney Geddes and Grace Richardson, great game girls.
Final score 3 goals each.
The 12/Under competition saw the Diamonds take on Extreme, and the Diamonds were a force to be reckoned with as the team worked well in all areas - their experience shone through.
Extreme, being a younger team, kept up with the game and competed extremely well with the ball travelling up and down the court they displayed some excellent defence.
Final score Diamonds 31 def. Extreme 1.
Thanks to Tiah Mclean, and new umpires Aleesha Viola and Piper Adams.
The Pythons played the Saints on Court 3 in a fast and furious game from start to finish. Both teams showed such improvement from last season with skills on the ball and around the court.
Jordan Scott from the Pythons did not stop and Jaime Thurtell was unstoppable in the ring and a real asset to the Saints. Welcome back Logan Buzza after a broken foot and well done in defence.
The Saints were just too good on the day with best and fairest going to Jaime Thurtell and Taylah Cadiente.
Final score Saints 7 def. Pythons 5.
The 14-16 competition started with the Young Guns 1 playing the Strikers in a fast game with fine shooting from both Lauren Radcliffe and Piper Adams.
The Strikers played well as a team - Mikaela Goodwin and Elle Kadwell defended to a high standard, often stealing the ball from their opponents. It was a great battle between Madi Malone and Lana Baxter in centre as both attacked and defended brilliantly.
The Strikers have shown they are the team to beat taking the game 23-10.
The Young Guns 2 played the Hot Shots in a very tight game with some great plays by the Hot Shots. This team has started to gel well and will improve with more time on the court.
The Young Guns 2 showed some grit and stepped up to the mark with the older players taking on the game and Daisy Hawkes shooting well.
Final score Young Guns 2 14 def. Hot Shots 7.
We look forward to seeing you all at Port Court for round 3 next Tuesday.
