Two new school captains have been selected at the Port Douglas State School.

Year 7 students Cassia Jansen and Jack Harrington were announced as the new leaders at Parade on Monday morning. Cassia has stepped into the position after being Vice Captain.

Jazz Moran and Fraser Allen will fill the vacant Vice Captain roles.

"They give a speech to the school and the kids vote on who they want to be school captain," Port Douglas State School's Karena Loomes said. "The kids got in because of the votes from their peers.

"They need to follow the school rules of be safe, be responsible, be a learner, and set a good example for the others."

Meanwhile, the Port Douglas Newsagency colouring competition was won by Sam Thompson and Cassandra Bayne.

The school will hold their ANZAC Day ceremony today at 2.15pm.
