No room for footbrawlers

Senior officials from the Port Douglas Crocs and Port Douglas Reef Raiders have forged a plan for a more harmonious relationship between two clubs of rival codes.

The Crocs' president Andy Smith and Senior Coach Brad Cooper met with Raiders' president Adam Calcraft and Media Co-ordinator Shane Branch at Port Douglas Police Station yesterday afternoon to discuss recent off-field clashes between players, and pave the way for closer ties into the future.

Port Douglas Police Officer-In-Charge Damian Meadows told The Newsport that players, particularly those players newly recruited from outside the region, would be educated on the expectations of their respective clubs.

As part of the healing process, a golf game mixing players from both clubs will be planned for two weeks' time, while a number of other initiatives will be put in place to build respect and camaraderie between players from each code.

These initiatives will be driven by the leadership groups of both clubs and may include inter-club training sessions and attendance at other code games.

There will also be an emphasis on building friendships during social occasions, a pertinent point considering the clubs share Rattle N Hum as a major sponsor.

Sergeant Meadows praised the two clubs for their co-operation saying "the clubs deserve a big pat on the back."
