New lease of life for Jungle Road

Port Douglas clothing store, Jungle Road, has celebrated its 20th year of operation by moving into an impressive new premises.

Owner Janette Walker said the spacious store on the corner of Macrossan and Grant Streets in the Saltwater Building is a fabulous move.

"We just needed to have a bit more space and we were able to negotiate a good lease so we've made an economic decision to make the move, and the premises is nicer, lighter, airier."

Speaking with The Newsport just minutes after the move last Friday, Ms Walker said she had already received positive feedback from shoppers.

"So far we've had a couple of people in and they say it just looks great. These are people who know the previous shop and they just went 'Wow!' so that's really good.

A winner of Port Douglas Magazine's Friendliest Retail Service award, Jungle Road has a long history in Port Douglas, and Ms Walker said she believes the future is as bright as their new store.

"Jungle Road opened in 1993 in what was Bell Tower Village. It was 39 square metres...We bought in 2002 so we've been involved for 11 years and seven years ago we moved into where we have been in Regal on Macrossan. This is our next step.

"Each year the business is getting better. It has been tough, but we're very positive about what's going to happen in the future."
