Marvellous Mal

Saturday saw six keen competitors turn out for a 700 metre double range competition and the constant cloud cover gave the shooters a very good sight on the target.

Norbert Schmidt was first to set up on the mound shooting in the F Class (telescoped, sandbagged 308) comp. Norbert opened with two 5s which he cut then squeezed off a dead centre followed by a mixed round of shots to give him a final first round tally of 56/6 from a possible 60.

Gus Gusmeroli was next on the mound in the F Class comp. Gus opened with two 6s for sighters which he kept and then went on to pull another 6 followed by 5s and 4s to give him a score of 51 from a possible 60.

Neil Attwood was down on the mound in the Full Bore (open sights, manual support 308) comp. Neil opened with a 2 and a 4 which he cut and then went on to shoot a mixed bag with one super V bull and a V bull to give him a first round score of 46/2 from a possible 50.

Malcolm McKellar was the next contestant on the mound shooting in the Full Bore comp. Mal opened with two 4s. He cut them and then went on to squeeze off a perfect score with four V Bulls and one super V Bull to give him a first range tally of 50/5.

Ron Schild was the last man on the mound shooting in the Full Bore comp. Ron opened with a 2 and a 5, he cut the 2 and kept the 5 and went on to pull a mixed bag of shots to give him a final first range score of 39 from a possible 50.

Norbert Schmidt was back for his second 700 metre shoot. Norbert opened with a 6 and a 5 which he cut and then squeezed off 5s, 6s and four dead centres to give him a score of 63/4.

Gus Gusmeroli was back down for his second range shoot. Gus opened with two 4s which he cut and then went on to shoot a very mixed bag of 3s, 4s, 5s and one dead centre to give Gus a second range  score of 53/1 in the 11 shot match from a possible 66.

Neil Attwood was back for his second 700 metre range Full Bore shoot and opened with a 4 and a 5. He cut the 4 and then went on to shoot fairly consistently dropping only three points to give him a second range score of 52/3 in the 11 shot match from a possible 55.

Malcolm McKellar was back for his second 700 metre range shoot. Mal opened with 5s and went on to squeeze off a replica of his first range score to give him a perfect second range score of  105/5.

Ron Schild was back for his second range and opened with super V Bull and a 3 which he opted to cut and then went on to pull two V bulls and a heap of 3s and 4s to post a score of 36/2.

In summary, a good afternoon was had by all with Malcolm McKellar taking honours in the Full Bore Comp with a Double Range Score of 105/10. A Perfect Double Possible. Well done Mal. He was followed by Neil Attwood on 98/5 and then Ron Schild with 75/2.

Norbert Schmidt took out first place in the F Class comp with a final score of 119/10 from a possible 126 followed by Gus Gusmeroli in second place with 104/1.

We had an interested visitor to the range by the name of Ben Purvis. Ben had three shots using Gus’ gun and found the target with each shot, scoring a 5,2,and a 4. A big thank you to the scorers and we’ll see you back at the range next Saturday at 1pm, weather permitting.
