Man dies after driving off ferry

A 62 year-old Mossman man has died after driving off the Daintree Ferry at around 12.20am this morning.

Forensic Crash Investigators, Police Scene of Crime group, Water Police, Maritime Safety Queensland, and Workplace Health and Safety officers are currently at the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

It is believed the man, whose name has not been released, drove his white Toyota Camry across on the ferry at 8.30pm last night. Police are seeking information on a second man they believe accompanied the deceased on this initial trip, and their activities in the four hours preceding the accident.

The second man, who was not involved in the accident, is tall and thin, with dark hair. If you have any information on the pair's movements, or the whereabouts of this man, please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or call Mossman Police on 07 4098 2177.

There are likely to be disruptions to the Daintree River ferry service throughout today. Intermittent delays are expected and motorists are asked to factor this into their travel time.

We'll bring you more information as it comes to hand.
