Let's play!

The inaugural Douglas Heat Basketball Club season is about to begin with official sign-on days coming up.

The recent come and try sessions on Wednesday afternoons in March attracted up to 50 children per session, with kids enjoying skills training and Cairns Taipans giveaways.

Two sign-on days are planned for primary school aged boys and girls on Wednesday April 17 and Wednesday April 24 from 3.30pm at Port Douglas cyclone shelter next to Port Douglas State School.

Registration fees are $95 per player which includes public liability insurance and court hire for the 2013 season.

With sign-on completed, each Wednesday kids will be taught rules and skills leading up to a proposed weekly intra-club competition envisaged to start in school term three and will run until the end of school term four.

While the competition will initially be open to primary school aged kids, it is hoped a high school aged comp and an adult competition may be formed at a later date.

Players and coaches from the wider Douglas region are encouraged to register their interest.
