Join the local fight against cancer
You don’t have to be a scientist, doctor or millionaire to make a difference in the fight against cancer, all you need is a big heart and a bit of spare time.
More than 194 Cancer Council Queensland volunteers from across Far North Queensland have been proving that for years with their dedication to the cause - raising millions of vital dollars annually.
With another successful year of fundraising behind them, the volunteer organising committees of the Mossman/Port Douglas, Atherton, Cairns, Innisfail, and Mareeba Cancer Council branches are searching for enthusiastic and energetic locals to help make 2013 bigger and better than ever before.
Volunteer positions, including executive committee roles, general members and occasional helping hands are available to be filled across the branch areas, with anyone wanting to get involved asked to express their interest by phoning (07) 3634 5190 or emailing volunteer@cancerqld.org.au.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said becoming part of a Cancer Council volunteer branch was a great way for ordinary people to do extraordinary things in the fight against cancer.
“The Atherton, Cairns, Innisfail, Mareeba and Mossman/Port Douglas branches have been helping to raise vital cancer awareness and funds for Cancer Council Queensland’s lifesaving cancer research, education programs and patient support services in the region for many years now,” she said.
“We at Cancer Council Queensland are proud of the fact that we rely heavily on the support of our network of volunteers to undertake our vital work, and are sincerely thankful for all they have done in the past, continue to do in the present and will do for years to come.
“Without a doubt, our volunteers allow us to support the one in two Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer and will one day help us achieve that cancer free future we are working towards together.”
Ms Clift said anyone could help make a difference in the fight against cancer by joining their local Cancer Council volunteer branch today.
“No matter what level of involvement you would like to have – occasional helping hand to dedicated committee member – volunteering for Cancer Council Queensland is a wonderful way to give back,” she said.
“Whatever you can do, just let us know and we’ll find a place for you. The door is always open!”
