High Tea to help local families
As families gather together to thank Mum for her love and support, there is no better time to get behind a local charity that also provides support for local families in need.
Kids In Need of Donations (KIND) are holding a delicious High Tea on Saturday 11 May at Harrison's Port Douglas to raise money so they can continue their important work.
Currently, KIND is assisting around ten families in the Douglas region who have children battling chronic and terminal illness.
KIND committee member, Jenny White (pictured with Jessica from Harrison's), said the service is discreet due to the nature of the circumstances families find themselves in, some of whom require financial assistance to enable their child to undergo treatment outside the region.
"It's a very private thing that they're going through and often they're very young children and it's not appropriate that they're advertised or used as a promotion for what we do," Ms White said.
"The community of Douglas has always been a very generous supporter of us in fundraisers such as this one we're about to do, but also from anonymous donations, money boxes in the community, people selling raffle tickets, Mossman Markets give us some money every so often...
"People like the fact it's going to stay in the community."
Next Saturday's morning tea has received broad support from local businesses with fantastic prizes on offer, including a spa treatment for the person who brings the best, most unique tea cup.
In addition, one lucky raffle winner will embark on a gastronomical tour of local restaurants, taking home around $600 in vouchers from ten participating restaurants.
And the function isn't just for ladies, gentlemen are also most welcome to attend the High Tea which runs between 2.30pm - 4.30pm.
Tickets are $30 and include the High Tea with a glass of bubbly. For more information contact Jenny White on 0407 159 379 or email jenny_white@bigpond.com.
