Free green waste disposal
To help with the annual task of a backyard clean-up, Council is offering free disposal of domestic green waste from April 20 to 28.
“It might not have been a big wet season, but that didn’t stop the gardens from growing over the summer,” Acting Mayor Terry James said.
“Now that the weather is starting to cool down, it’s a great time to get outside and tidy up the yard to enjoy during the drier months.”
Domestic green waste – such as garden prunings, palm fronds and grass clippings – will be accepted at the following CRC waste transfer stations at no charge during the free drop-off period:
- Killaloe Transfer Station (Mon - Sat 8am - 5.15 pm, Sun 9am - 5.15pm)
- Newell Beach Transfer Station (Mon & Fri 7am - 11:45am, Wed 12pm - 5:45pm, Sat 7am - 5:45pm)
- Smithfield Transfer Station (Mon to Sat 7am - 5.15pm, Sun 9am - 5.15pm)
- Portsmith Transfer Station (Open 7 days 8.30 am - 5.15pm)
- Gordonvale Transfer Station (7 days 8.30 am - 5:15pm)
- Babinda Transfer Station (7 days 8.30am - 4.45pm)
Green waste collected during this period will be mulched and offered back to residents at no charge at a later date.
Cars, utilities, trailers and light trucks up to 4 tonnes maximum GVM will be allowed access to the free drop-off. Normal rates will apply for other waste, including green waste from garden contractors on behalf of residents.
