Couple's dream comes true

Ask any soon-to-be married couple where their dream wedding would be and chances are Port Douglas will be top of the list.

For Keryn McCormick and Peter Van Sheik that dream became a reality on Friday morning as the couple, who hail from Auckland, New Zealand, tied the knot at St Mary's By The Sea.

"So what?" you might ask, "Hundreds of couples get married in Port Douglas each year!"

Well, Keryn and Peter's icing on their wedding cake came when they were announced as the winners of Port Douglas Magazine's 'Win a Port Douglas Wedding' competition meaning their entire celebration was on the house - all they had to do was explain in 25 words or less why they wanted to win a Port Douglas Wedding.

"I actually thought they were having us on," Keryn said on receiving the phone call from Port Douglas Magazine to notify them of their win. "We've never won anything before, we were just so excited."

Keryn and Peter have been coming to Port Douglas with their family each year for the past four years, and for them, there was no question as to where their wedding would be held.

"The first time we were here we came down to the church and saw a couple of weddings happening, and I said to Peter it would be absolutely beautiful to get married here," Kerry said.

"Today our dreams came true."

Peter, decked out in white shirt, black shorts and thongs (traditional Port Douglas wedding attire), said the ceremony was just how they wanted it.

"It was good, just nice and casual and relaxed at a beautiful venue."

The couple will remain in Port Douglas to honeymoon.

For their efforts the lucky couple won:

  • Three night's accommodation at Port Douglas Cottage and Lodge;
  • A premium wedding package from Port Douglas Weddings;
  • A ceremony at St Mary's By The Sea;
  • Marriage celebrant services;
  • Wedding photos by Port Douglas Weddings
  • Tropical church flowers and decorations;
  • Petal shower and bell ringing; and
  • Wedding consultancy and co-ordinator.

No wonder they're all smiles.
