Cast of thousands deliver success
Andy Smith of the Port Douglas Crocs delivers his presidential insight into the club, and what it takes to maintain the well-oiled machine.
Well, one game down for 2013 and what a night - the first game under lights and a bumper crowd.
The Reserves got us off to a flying start with a huge win over the Doggies. Then both clubs, and umpires, lined up with several life members to have a minute's silence to show their respect to Ernie Baxter. It was a great sight to see and Ernie would have been proud to see all the players as they came over and personally gave Merilyn a hug.
Then it was time for the main event and the boys came out of the blocks flying. Bradshaw and Wearmouth showed they had lost nothing over the summer and the 12 new players started combining to show that 2013 will be a good year at the Croc Pit.
I would like to take a moment to thank, not only the players for a great night, but to the volunteers who all worked very hard to make our first night game a success.
John Cameron worked all day and also assisted in the clean up on Good Friday. Rob Barnett, German, Wally, Jim Buckley the same, and Michelle from Souths who assisted in strapping. Mary Lou on the gate, Tim timekeeping, the scoreboard attendants, Marta for eight hours in the canteen and assisted by Trish and the Crocs' netball girls who also worked very hard selling food.
Muffy was run off his feet behind the bar and Double 0 for running the 200 Club. A special thanks to Keith the Barber who prepared the first 200 club dinner. Scotty (IGA) for running the raffles, Water boys and runners etc. Yes it takes a cast of thousands to run a successful football club we have some of the best.
This week we have a bye and will be heading up to the Mitchell River for some fun and games. We need a few helpers to come along. It will be a great weekend with JC assisting in camp management.
If you would like to come up and camp out with the boys please call me on 0408 985 372.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday 13 April when we play a twilight game against the Hawks. I believe the Reserves will kick-off at 3pm.
The 200 Club will be held at half time of the Seniors at approximately 6.15pm.
We are still chasing player photo sponsors so if you assist with a $100 donation please contact John Cameron or myself.
Straight after the game we will be having a gourmet international dinner, so see you soon.
The Pres.
