There's a Green Moon on the rise
Melbourne - Moonee Valley
Race 6 Number 5 Green Moon
Green Moon, who finished second to Southern Speed in last year's Caulfield Cup, is currently the $15 favourite in the Caulfield Cup in which he has just 53.5kg.
The 1600-metre Dato stakes this Saturday, formerly known as the John F. Feehan Stakes, has been a graveyard for Caulfield Cup hopefuls.
None of the past 30 Caulfield Cup winners have come through the Dato. Seven Dato winners have had a crack at the Caulfield Cup in that time with Fields Of Omagh (2nd in 2002), Beaux Art (3rd in 1995) and Inaflury (3rd in 1999) the only ones to place.
Green Moon is also prominent in Cox Plate betting, at $13 behind Pierro ($4.80), so Im thinking that the Cox Plate is his target, especially if he wins on the track Saturday.
Green Moon boasts formlines that should have him in the finish of Saturday's $300,000 Group 2 race.
I also like for Saturday:
Race 3 Number 1 Precedence
The $80,000 Adapt Australian Handicap (1600m) could also prove an important Spring guide with Cups hopes Precedence, Moyenne Corniche and Val Champ among those engaged.
Precedence had a great run first up just behind the leaders and I'm sure Bart has him in top shape for Saturday.
It is not the only support race that contains Cups contenders with last year's Bendigo Cup winner Tanby running on Saturday in Race 4 and I think he is a great chance also.
Race 5 Number 4 Bel Sprinter
The feature sprint on the card is the $150,000 Group 3 Mitty's McEwen Stakes (1000m), which includes international Group 1 winner Green Birdie, the ultra-consistent Golden Archer, and one-time boom gelding Bel Sprinter.
Bel Sprinter has had three starts first up and over this distance and won the all, loves the track and should win on Saturday.
So lets try our multi bet again as there is the vaule. $5e/way multi bet brings us $500 if all three win. Not bad!
Good luck and bring on the Cup!
