Rafter hits town

Two-time US Open champion and Australian tennis legend Pat Rafter is in Port Douglas as part of his ambassadorial role with Mantra Hotels.

Rafter is in the region to experience many of the attractions and activities that have made tropical North Queensland famous including kayaking, Skyrail, Hartley's, Mossman Gorge, and, of course, a trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

"That's what you want when you're holidaying with kids - the easier the better. It's all about spending quality time together," he said.

Despite retiring from the world tour some years ago, the Queenslander remains one of Australia's most popular sporting identities.

He participated in a friendly game of tennis with Mantra Group CEO Bob East at Palm Cove yesterday, and signed autographs to a throng of avid fans.

Pat commended regional Mantra staff for their efforts in putting together the impressive itinerary for him and his family to enjoy.
