Since October 2007 a landmark Port Douglas lifestyle event has been quietly (well, quite loudly actually) building its reputation.

Porttoberfest - Beers of the World was established to recognise the diverse international flavour of Port Douglas' unique locals and its perpetual wealth of visitors, and of course, the undeniable fact that here in Port Douglas and Cairns, quite frankly, we love beer!

Porttoberfest has, since its launch, graced the spectacular palm-lined Rex Smeal Park, whilst in more recent years has been hosted by the legendary Court House Hotel.

Porttoberfest spokesperson Sam Cullen is distinctly excited about revealing that this year the Port Douglas-centric beer festival is to be held on the scenic boardwalk of the Port Douglas Marina in association with the multi-award winning operator Wayne Stapleton from Lure Restaurant.

"Porttoberfest means 'good time' to the thousands who have attended over the years," Sam said.

"This year the spectacular marina boardwalk, with its striking backdrop of the Rex Mountain Range and the luxury yachts bobbing at their moorings in time to the festival music, will present a very special way of celebrating this traditional German Mega Festival."

Wayne echoed Sam's excitement at the prospect of the entertainment planned to hit the boardwalk on 27 October.

"We see this event being able to embrace all the great things celebrated by our other major event hosted on the marina, Carnivale's Seafood Extravaganza.



"We have organised North Queensland's hottest super group Hip 2 Soul to play throughout the afternoon and for anyone who hasn't yet heard of or seen the Porttoberfest Dancing Girls then just these girls alone are worth coming for. And yes, there will be the traditional slap dance!"

There'll be plenty of beer merchandise on sale and to give away as well as prizes for those patrons who make the effort to come in the country colours of their favourite international beer.

For the first time this year Rendezvous Reef Resort has come on board and is offering 2 Bedroom Villas for only $185 per night (even cheaper if you book two nights) to assist patrons from Cairns and other surrounding areas make a weekend of the event.

"Also on offer are a limited number of VIP passes which will include access to a VIP area, a souvenir glass stein, Porttoberfest beer cooler and all your food and drink is serviced by our gorgeous Porttoberfest waitresses," Sam said.

A full range of non-beer drinks will also be available.

The event is lots of fun but organisers stress that responsible service of alcohol will be enforced and that they require all guests to drink responsibly.
