Nominate your top Aussie
A gala dinner will recognise the Cairns region’s top citizens ahead of Australia Day celebrations in 2013.
The 2013 Australia Day Awards program was launched yesterday by Mayor Bob Manning and 2012 Citizen of the Year Russell Beer.
With awards to be presented in six categories, nominations are now invited from all members of the public.
“The Australia Day Awards are a chance to recognise and thank those people in our community who go out of their way to benefit others or have worked hard to achieve their dreams,” Cr Manning said.
“We look forward to congratulating our next group of award recipients on their contribution to our region. But first, we need nominations.
“We all know someone who inspires us through their generosity, leadership or determination. An Australia Day Award nomination is a great way to show your appreciation.”
The 2013 awards will be presented by Cr Manning at a special awards dinner at the Sebel on the evening of January 25.
Award categories are: Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year (under 19), Cultural Award, Volunteer of the Year, Senior Sportsperson of the Year (19 and over) and Junior Sportsperson of the Year (under 19).
Nomination forms are available to download from Council’s website www.cairns.qld.gov.au or at Council’s customer service centres and libraries.
