Nicky G talks AFL finals

It’s footy finals time and all four games have the potential to be beauties. Here’s what I reckon...

Hawks (1) vs Pies (4) at the MCG on Friday night

This one is only one more sleep away and will be action packed with the loser not being sent packing just yet.

Hawthorn is still seething about blowing a four goal three quarter time lead in last year’s Preliminary Final which handed the black and white a ticket to the GF.

They want redemption and should get it. Form says they are the best side in it right now and Clarkson is as hungry as ever. Buddy is back and kicking goals and the Hawks' midfield is up and running like a well-oiled machine.

Collingwood, however, have their own class in the engine room and Cloke is back kicking goals. A loss would see the pressure mounting on Buckley as Malthouse takes over at Carlton and the succession plan Eddie scripted will start to look like a huge mistake.

All juicy political stuff and you’ve gotta love it. Hawks by 23.

Crows (2) vs Swans (3) at AAMI Stadium on Saturday arvo

The loser once again need not panic but flags tend to be won by those who protect their home turf.

Adelaide are playing a great attacking style of footy under Sanderson and the rookie coach seems to have instilled self belief and fun back into this squad.

Sydney has been one of the best teams all year but, like the Pies, their form right now looks sketchy.

Sydney has in the past enjoyed going to Adelaide and spoiling the Crow Eaters' party and I’m tipping this to happen again. They are due for a win and will do it in a nailbiter. Swans by 3.

Geelong (6) vs Freo (7) at the MCG on Saturday night

The reigning champions Geelong have looked crusty in their defence but their last eight weeks have looked as good as any.

When on they are capable of kicking huge scores and midfielders like Bartel and Selwood are the best in the business.

Freo have improved and have a cagey coach but will only be able to match the Cats for three quarters. They are still a few key players off advancing. Cats by 33.

West Coast (5) vs North Melbourne (8) at Patersons Stadium on Sunday arvo

This is a tough ask for the much improved NM and, like Freo, will play their hearts out and compete for the most part before the twin towers and the West Coast savvy vets pour on the experience.

I’d love to see the Roos get this one and if it were in Melbourne I’d give them a chance. Not in WA however, but they can enjoy mad Monday knowing their club is going in the right direction. Eagles by 18.

There you have it punters, and if any of these tips get close and you have a flutter make sure you buy me a beer one day - I really like the stuff!
