"The percentage we've got is unbelievably small, and I think we've got every reason to feel extremely short-changed and we've been treated with contempt."

That is the assessment by Division 10 councillor Julia Leu on how Douglas fared in this week's LNP State budget.

Cr Leu was outspoken in her criticism of the State Government and Member for Cook David Kempton, and said they had shown a complete disregard for the region.

"I was quite shocked that we've been totally ignored in the State budget. There is absolutely zero for the Port Douglas Waterfront and the Daintree Gateway.

"There is nothing for upgrades to boat ramps, Rocky Point and Newell Beach. There were promised upgrades to boat ramps in Douglas by David Kempton prior to the election.

"They made commitments prior to the election. I know David Kempton said the waterfront project is a good project and should receive funding..."

Cr Leu said the wider region received significant funding of more than $450 million and highlighted the $10.5 million Cairns received to improve their foreshore.

"There has been millions of dollars allocated to the rest of the region, and all I can see is $500,000 to only commence the upgrade to the Port Douglas intersection, and there's no guarantee the rest of the money is going to eventuate.

"It's really disappointing because on the back of what has been a really positive tourism season we could have taken advantage of getting local business, and tradies in particular, into work.

"We really need to revitalise the waterfront, we do have some excellent plans, and I'm really quite shocked that we have got absolutely nothing to assist us.

"We've got a lot of people out of work in Douglas and we also have businesses that are under threat or have recently closed, and I think the State needed to recognise that and allocate funds to projects that are very well advanced in their planning.

Cr Leu said the lack of support from the Queensland Government could jeopardise future applications for the Federal government's Regional Development Australia Fund.

"It makes it extremely difficult because we need a commitment from the State to have a strong case for the Regional Development Australia Fund.

"I'm not confident we'll get past first base."
