Kempton criticised for airport claim

Member for Cook David Kempton has come under fire from leader of the Queensland Opposition, Annastacia Palaszczuk, who says Mr Kempton has been "caught out" claiming the Mareeba Airport upgrade was never funded by the previous Labor Government.

Ms Palaszczuk said the $13 million upgrade was outlined in last year’s Budget papers.

“I think Mr Kempton needs to apologise to the people on the Tablelands for purposefully misleading them by saying the money never existed.

“The truth is Mr Kempton and the LNP Government has scrapped the funding for the airport upgrade like they have scrapped so many jobs, services and infrastructure projects in regional Queensland.

“Mr Kempton needs to be honest about why this $13.396 million in funding was scrapped from the Mareeba Airport upgrade and where the money is now being spent,” she said.
