The annual Whitelion Jungle Ride is just around the corner, and already dozens of riders have registered to take up the challenge.

Whitelion supporter and event organiser Lesley Stephens said the ride, which takes people from Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation (and back if you're crazy enough), is growing in popularity with every year.

"It has gone from 40 in the first year to 140 in its third year, and we're expecting at least that this year," Lesley said.

She added that one of the most pleasing aspects of the event is the participation of riders from all over Australia.

"(We have riders) from Victoria, from Tasmania, from NSW, from the ACT, they come from everywhere.

"We've got Mark Beretta from Sunrise coming up this year...and some pro cyclists from Victoria, maybe even someone who has just finished the Tour (Tour de France).

"They are coming up to support Whitelion," she said.



Whitelion co-founder and AFL premiership player Glenn Manton will again be joining riders who are choosing to embark on either the 90km Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation ride, or the 180km return route.

"Where else are you going to ride through the rainforest and have the beach by your side?" Lesley said.

The ride will take place on 27 October and registrations can be made through the Jungle Ride website.

Participants can win some great prizes including a $2000 bike from Port Douglas Bike Hire for the person who raises the most money for the charity.
