Grant Street eatery the Hot Pot is the latest Port Douglas restaurant to close its doors, clearing out its premises earlier this week.

It comes as a surprise to many, with the general consensus being Port Douglas has experienced its best peak season for many years.

Acting president of the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce Phoebe Kitto said that while the reason for the Hot Pot's closure is not yet known, it comes as a reminder for other businesses to be on top of their financial management.

"From the Chamber's perspective it's very sad to see any business close down in town, and it just goes to show that even if we are having a good season that margins are tight and it's a reminder to businesses to make sure they keep a close look at their incomings and outgoings to keep themselves viable in the high and low seasons," Ms Kitto said.
