Gymnasts excel in tricky Challenge

Two teams of girls represented the Mossman & District Gymnastics Club at the MACCA Team Challenge at Barron Valley recently. Competing in Levels 2 and 3 of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics event, the girls were up against some tough competition.

Barron Valley Gymnastics Club in Cairns is renowned as being a hotspot for representing gymnasts as State champions and even training gymnasts to attend comps on the National level, and they knew how to play the game. Contributing 5 teams in all, they had the upper hand.

The Team Challenge involved individual teams working together for a combined score to beat the other teams’ totals, with the goal of attaining a trophy in first, second or third placings for proud display at their respective clubs.

Being a smaller club, Mossman was only able to amass enough girls for one team in each level and were up against multiple teams from Mareeba and South Cairns as well.

However, our local club managed to grab the third place trophy for Bars and narrowly missed out on Beam, coming fourth out of six teams.

Individually the girls excelled. In WAG Level 2, Tali Hoye tied second overall on Bars and Della Miller earned an overall ranking of fourth on Floor, tied fifth on Beam and tied eighth on Vault out of 29 competitors.

Team mates Jorja Harvey, Kahli Frizelle and Sarah Demeis also received good results and contributed to a consistent overall team score.

In WAG Level 3, Shayla Frizelle impressed, placing third overall on Beam and tied fourth on Bars, while Paulina Bernhardi excelled on Vault, coming equal eleventh out of 28 competitors.

Fellow team mates Jacinta Frizelle, along with newcomers from General Gym Emily Corr and Rebekah Ives, also supported their team well, gaining good overall results.
