Cooya Beach misses the post

Cooya Beach residents are being treated as "third world citizens" by Australia Post, according to one angry home owner who has lashed out at the national mail carrier.

Des Rolfe says a lack of mail delivery service and Australia Post mail boxes, and even an inability to buy stamps in Cooya Beach is unacceptable.

"Australia Post informs us that only 39% of people want a mail delivery," Mr Rolfe said. "Actually that's a lot of people.

"Post box arrangements suit some people, but not everyone.  We're not talking exams at school, we're talking an essential service.  This is a growth area.  It's a ten kilometre walk to Mossman Post Office and return."

Cooya Beach residents are being denied acceptable postal services by Australia Post according to Mr Rolfe.

Mr Rolfe said despite complaints made to Australia Post, he had been advised that existing mail delivery and collection arrangements will remain unchanged.

"How can you change zero arrangements? There aren't any. Come on Australia Post, you can do better," he said.

Australia Post has yet to respond to questions from The Newsport.
