Race against time
It’s been a marathon in the making, but now the Total Solar Eclipse Adventure Marathon is just 28 days away and event organisers, Port Douglas Event Management say they are just about ready.
PDEM’s Bruno Bennett was pleased to say that following the announcement of CANEGROWERS as the Naming Rights Sponsor for the next three years, he was now able to confirm a number of other key sponsor signings.
The SEVEN Network will be the Major Media Sponsor supported by Zinc FM. Seven will showcase the commercial ready to hit your screens that will be promoting registrations for the 2013 CANEGROWERS Great Barrier Reef Marathon.
“Planning for these events is a year round task,” Mr Bennett said. “There is the unique opportunity to market our annual marathon to all the runners coming out for the Solar Eclipse Marathon – it’s an opportunity we can’t afford to miss.”
Mr Bennett is also confident that publicity surrounding the marathon will be invaluable for future years.
“We have already spoken to a range of international travel agents about involving a greater range of countries in 2013.”
Continuing the sponsorship announcements, Coles and the Sheraton Mirage have signed on as Major Corporate Sponsors and Mr Bennett said PDEM are thrilled to have organisations of this standing involved for the next 3 years.
PDEM will be making further sponsorship announcements over the next two weeks, however at this stage it is all hands on deck making sure the course, transfers, accommodation, functions and the many other logistics are all in place.
When contacted to ask how his plans were going for the big event, Race Ambassador and Australian running legend Steve Moneghetti said he couldn’t wait.
“It’s been so cold down here” said Moneghetti from his home in Ballarat in central Victoria. “I just can’t wait to get up into that beautiful tropical climate.”
Having been told about the notorious Bump Track, Moneghetti said “surely it can’t be that bad – it’s only 1.5km long isn’t it?”
Editor's Comments: Wait until these internationals take on the Bump Track. If our beautiful town and amazing scenery isn’t enough to get them all talking – then the Bump Track certainly will!
