Muddies Green collect outright win
Heading into Day 2 and with 95 runs in reserve, Muddies Green were keen to win outright against Norths. The Muddies planned for an expected worst case scenario of having to bat a second time late in the day to chase a meagre 20 to 40 runs to complete the win.
Knowing their bowlers had troubled the Norths' batsmen last week, the Muddies did not want to get ahead of themselves so set about the day as though it were the start of a new game.
The approach was effective with both Smith and Sorensen breaking through in their first overs with one bowled and a catch to Arora at gully.
Norths’ previous openers batted at 3 and 4, steadying the ship with a 45 run partnership before Walz, who bowled better than his figures of 1/26 off 7 suggest, broke through with a classy catch to keeper Armour bringing Norths to 3/47, 48 runs in arrears.
Barnes, who had been superb in the field yet starved of bowling since the first match, had the slight cross breeze advantaging his in swingers.
He collected a very tidy bowled in his second over followed three balls later by a one-handed catch to the skipper that, although cleanly and sharply taken, seemed somewhat too casual for his team mates to applaud.
Barnes was rested after 4 overs returning 2/11 as Smith and Sorensen were brought back into the attack to finish the tail.
Smith (3/27) finished with match figures of 11/60 off 26 but it was his bowling partner Sorensen (2/13 off 9) who had the last laugh gaining Norths’ last man LBW – all out for 80.
Muddies Green won by an innings and 15 runs, and joined the super successful Muddies Blue for the first ever double outright win for the club.
Away games for both teams this week and next.
GO THE MUDDIES!
