A company owned by Mayor Bob Manning and wife Claire has purchase Events NQ, Cr Manning confirmed with The Newsport on Friday.

Events NQ is a party hire and exhibition supplies company who also manage the Sheraton Mirage Longest Lunch, and Food, Wine, and a Taste of Port events during Port Douglas' Carnivale.

The latter event came under intense scrutiny in 2012 with many partygoers complaining of inadequate catering and long wait times.

"The business has been broken up. Exhibitions have gone off to one side and we've bought the rest," Cr Manning said.

"We look forward to a very close association with Port Douglas. We've got staff up there and space up there, a lease up there.

"Events NQ has a long association with Port Douglas and we would expect that to continue."

Cr Manning has reportedly said the purchase would be placed on Cairns Regional Council's register of interest and was mindful to avoid any conflicts which might arise during Council tender processes.
