It's not easy being green
Muddies Green commenced Day 2 against Mulgrave Punjabi missing three of last week’s players due to work, travel or injury.
Walz was subbed and Gaul filled in as 12th man, but missing the other fielder the ball tended to go everywhere but to the fielders as Punjabi rode their luck and regained immense ground from their
4/37 start to be within four runs of Muddies 131 at the tea break with no further loss.
Muddies' opening bowlers Darlington and Walz, and change bowler Barnes, had bowled tightly and attackingly as the team remained confident that with one wicket would come the rest.
After tea, Redfern was first to break through with a safe diving catch taken by Gaul in the midfield. This was followed by Darlington (2/33) which included a half tracker that the batsman could have played two shots at and was instead bowled.
Walz (1/38) produced a good caught and bowled after coming close to an impossible one earlier. Hayden D’Adonna showed promise and earned the respect of the batsmen conceding 11 off his first 4 overs as Redfern (3/38) wrapped up the tail with an LBW and a spectacular outfield catch by the skipper.
Mulgrave went to the change all out 187.
Sent back in Muddies played some poor shots to be 5/56 by the close of play with Barnes (24no) again top scoring. Muddies Green lost on first innings points.
We would obviously have preferred to win but we are satisfied with what is on offer for further development within this new side. With a bit more discipline from senior batsmen along with better
team numbers at home in Port Douglas, this coming weekend we should do well Vs Rovers.
1pm start Sunday, free entry to all, come and support!
