Highlanders Cannon fodder

The Under 14 Reef Raiders headed down to Cairns on Friday to play the Highlanders. The Highlanders could only manage 12 players for the night but to their credit they come out firing and scored two quick tries to take a 12 nil lead.

But the Raiders hit back before halftime by scoring two tries themselves. one try to Quinlyn Cannon was a highlight of the game for he ran 65 metres and beat five opposition players to score.

The try by Wayne Oui was a well set up team try. so at the break the scores were tied and it was the Raiders with the momentum.

The second half was a very tight arm wrestle with both teams having scoring chances but again Cannon was first to score for the Raiders.

The Raiders put in a huge defensive effort with Tom Henly and Tom Allen leading the way. On the back of this strong defence Quinlyn got over for his third try for the night.

The final score for the Raiders was 24-12 which was really pleasing For the coach as there was four frontline players out and all the players stood up. The players that stood out wer Tom Allen, Aron Price and player of the day was Quinlyn Cannon.

The Raiders this week will have home ground advantage and will play their first game under lights for the 2012 season. It would be great if everyone can get down there to support all the age groups.
