Congratuations to Geoff Goodwin who was installed as President of the Mossman Golf Club at the AGM on Sunday 23 September.
New Committee members are Rick Herschell as Treasurer, and Steve Gray to join the existing committee of Ralf Middel, John Carney, Shona Barbour and Pris Freeman.
Congratulations also go to Dennis Blake for his Life Membership as a result of 31 years of voluntary service to the club and for being instrumental in the course development from 9 to 18 holes.
The Ambrose event to commemorate our great mate Ian “Chisel” McCormack is arranged for Saturday 13 October, so get your funny hat and colourful outfit together for a fun day. All are welcome, and a bus will be leaving the Barrier Reef Tavern at 11.30am. Book your team and the bus with Jock on 4098 1570, and motorised buggies on 4098 2089.
We have had another week of glorious weather, and 43 players competed in Tuesday’s Stableford event. The event was won by Bruce Cheesman with 43 points ahead of Michael Gabour with 42 points and Jock O’Kane with 41 points.
Nearest the pins were Art Howard on 6, Ian Steley on 8, Kym Rowley on 10, Simon Nelson on 13 and Jeff Murray on 17.
The winner of Wednesday’s nine hole event was Bob Laybutt with 26 points, ahead of Lucy Giles with 24 points. Nearest the pins were John Cameron on 13 and Helen Gabour on 17.
Thursday’s Ladies Par event was won by Patti Graham with +2 on a count-back to Helen Gabour, and in third place Treveen Page who finished square with the card. Nearest the pins were Kerri-Lynn Williams on 6 and 8, Bev Cowe on 10 and 17 and Helen on 13.
The Friday Frolic was won by Ed Sant with 22 points on a count-back to Dan Hober.
Saturday’s Stableford event was won by Des Landy with 39 points on a count-back to Art Howard and in third place Laurie Prosser with 38 points. Nearest the pins were Dennis Blake on 6, Brett Jurie on 8, Jeff Murray on 10, Charlie Kadic on 13 and Maurie Meth on 17.
The Ladies Stableford event was won by Narelle Johnson with 42 points and runner-up Judy McCormack with 35 points. Nearest the pins were Pris Freeman on 10 and Cherie Hancock on 13.
A small field competed on Sunday, and Russell Hooker took home the voucher with 43 points ahead of John Reason with 35 points. Nearest the pin was Russell on 17.
The Ladies Pennant Team travelled to Atherton on Sunday and halved the matchplay against Cairns with 2 wins, 2 losses, and 2 halved matches. Congratulations to Atherton who won the Matchplay for the year in a playoff against Half Moon Bay.
