Xmas comes to Cairns

The sights and sounds of Christmas will engulf the Cairns foreshore next Monday, when Mayor Bob Manning switches on the Esplanade Christmas tree lights.

The event traditionally signals the start of the festive season in the Cairns region, heralded by carollers, elves handing out lollies and roving entertainment.

“This year, we will unveil a spectacular new tree that is sure to light up the Esplanade and be the focus of many a photo,” Mayor Bob Manning said.

“The tree stands 10 metres tall and features more than 8000 LED lights.

“We invite locals and visitors to come along to see the tree light up and to welcome the Christmas season.”

The tree will be constructed during the next few days at the shallow end of the Cairns Esplanade lagoon.

The tree will be lit up for the first time on Monday, December 3, just after 7pm, with entertainment and carols from 5.30pm.

All members of the public are invited to attend.
