U16 Muddies thump opposition
The Under 16s Muddies took on the Mareeba/Rovers at Port Douglas Sporting Complex over the past two Saturdays where Mareeba/Rovers won the toss and sent the Muddies in to bat.
Opener Hayden D’Addona was out early on 5 before a nice partnership between Ashley Davison and Ben Shrimpton got the score to 41 before Shrimpton was out caught for 12.
Ashley was then stumped on 26 with the score at 3/61. Tom Goodall followed on 12 and the Muddies finished their first 32 overs 4/92.
It was then the Mareeba/Rovers turn to bat with Michael Schulz the first to break through in the eighth over when the score was at 13. The next wicket again went to Schulz. The opposition then took the score to 63 without the loss of another wicket but late in the day Ashley and Sean both took wickets to have Mareeba/Rovers at 4 for 70.
On the second Saturday the Muddies resumed batting with Ethan McCullough and Kaiden Sorensen started ticking the score over easily for some time until Ethan was out on 37 to a superb catch at mid-wicket with the score on 123.
Michael Schulz was next in to bat and due to a bad call from his batting partner was run out. Nathan Evans followed a short time later leaving the Muddies at 7 for 146. Levi Trewick was next in and did well to face some very quick bowling and supported Kaiden with 4 runs, while Kaiden brought his runs to 50 before retiring on 55 not out.
Sean Evans went in to bat with three overs left and had the right idea to get as many runs as possible but was unfortunately run out on the last ball to leave the score on 8 for 182.
The Mareeba/Rovers team needed 113 to win the match but the Muddies had a different idea with Captain Ben Shrimpton taking the first wicket in the third over of the innings.
The next wicket fell with Ethan taking a stumping off the bowling of Nathan, and in the next over the seventh wicket fell with Ashley taking a fantastic one-handed catch at second slip off Hayden D’Addona’s bowling.
Kaiden then claimed two wickets at the end, before there was a run out involving three people which showed great team work with D’Addona whipping the ball in from the boundary to Kaiden and before being finished off by Nathan.
Ashley then finished the opposition off with a catch to Schulz ceasing Mareeba/Rovers' innings all out for 137.
The bowling stats were Kaiden Sorensen 2/15 off 7, Nathan Evans 1/7 off 5, Schulz 2/1 off 6, Shrimpton 1/15 off 8, D’Addona 1/9 off 7, Davidson 2/9 and Sean Evans 1/3.
Under 16s' next match is an 8am start on Saturday at Trinity Beach against Barron River and the Muddies team will be missing three of their team mates with Hayden D’Addona, Ethan McCullough and Ben Shrimpton away for a week playing in the Under 15 Peninsula team at the Queensland School state cricket championships at the Gold Coast from 2-6 December.
