TAS too strong for U14 Raiders

The second home game of the year for the Under 14 Raiders was played under lights on Friday in which they took on the much bigger TAS White Rock.

The Raiders started off well and contained TAS for ten minutes but weight of possession and the harder running opposition saw them take a ten point lead.

But then the game quickly turned the Raiders' way as Kienan Grogan took an interception and scored under the posts. Then, after the kick off, the Raiders busted the line and Cannon chipped over the fullback only to be tripped and given a penalty try, and with the conversion in front successful, that put the Raiders in front 14 to 10.

Just before the break the Raiders made an error and TAS put on a backline move which saw them score out wide, to which the crowd was cursing the referee for shepherd. This saw TASs lead 17 - 14 at the break.

The second half was all one way traffic with TAS putting the foot down and really showing the Raiders how to play rugby by scoring eight tries.

But to the Raiders' credit they never gave up and the scored a try of their own in the second half. The coaching staff were happy that they never dropped their heads and always ran the ball back for the kick offs and tried things all night against a side that is much bigger and stronger than they were.

The crowd saw plenty of points scored on the night, 14 tries in all, and the final score was TAS 63 to Raiders 21.

The points on the night went to Fraser Cotton and the much smaller but tackling machine Tom Allen, but the Port Putt Putt Man of the Match went to Kienan Grogan.

The boys head to Cairns on Friday to hopefully get back in the winner’s circle.
