Eclipse info for motorists

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has arranged for traffic movements on Captain Cook Highway, Kennedy Highway (Kuranda Range Road) and Mossman-Mt Molloy Road (Rex Range) to be unaffected by construction works between midnight and midday on the day of the eclipse.

TMR and Queensland Police will be monitoring road conditions on the morning of the eclipse and take action immediately to address any safety concerns.

Police warn that any vehicles found parking illegally or in an unsafe manner will be moved on or towed.

"Locals are urged to consider staying at home or viewing the Total Eclipse from beaches south of Cairns which aren’t expected to be as busy," said Sergeant Cary Coolican of Cairns District Crime Prevention.

Road users should expect increased traffic volumes and plan for possible delays en route to their eclipse viewing destination.

"Traffic control measures will be in place on highways along vantage points with most lookouts closed due to limited parking space," Sergeant Coolican said.
