Atherton feel the Muddies' pinch

by Damian Darlington

Muddies Under 12s headed to Tolga keen to take the field against Atherton's second team.

Captain Edward lost the toss and was forced to field. Deuble (1-6) and Doble (1-4) bowled tightly and well enough to remove the openers.

Atherton couldn't score a run off the bat from the bowling of Davenport (1-2) and Edward (1-5). Twomey continued his excellent bowling and was unlucky to not take a wicket.

Playing his first game of the season, Killeen showed he hasn't lost any form as he took (2-5) off three overs. P.Darlington found an unusual way to bowl a dot ball when Allison failed to heed his coach’s warnings to move away from the pitch and copping a wide delivery in the backside.

Atherton was struggling at 5/33 until Muddies' substitute players Rayner and X.Darlington steadied the ship. Rayner played a chanceless innings to retire on 12no while Darlington tried everything not to make his first run of the season.

First he fell during a run, then ran off in the wrong direction because he was blinded by his helmet. Atherton’s innings was brought to a premature end at 84 by their coach, apparently he had better things to do.

First time opener Stanaway (10) got his side off to a great start whacking two boundaries on his way to retirement. P.Darlington and Davenport batted defensively to their retirement.

Allison strode gingerly to the crease and found it was easier to hit boundaries than to run belting 26 from 15 balls with the support of Conner.

Curtis, although playing for the oppistion, bowled a maiden before Doble crunched 28 from 17 balls. Scott 'The Fortress' Cooper who still hasn't been dismissed this season supported Deuble as he hit 13 from 8 giving Muddies 4/150 and a convincing win.
