U15 Sharks in a thriller

UNDER 6 & 7

At home this week there was an Under 6 game as well as an Under 7 game.  In the under 6’s game the Razorbacks were too good, scoring 6 tries to Mossman’s 0. Big effort from our little Sharkies though.

In the Under 7’s game (which includes our Under 6’s), the players were more confident playing with their team united and put on three awesome tries.

Scorers on the day were Wyatt Lourigan (2) and Jesse Frisina.  The remainder of the team put in a huge effort in defence to only allow Razorbacks three tries also, which left us with a draw.

Man of the Match for today was awarded to the very capable EJ Bowen for a great performance in both games.  Coach’s Award was well deserved by Leilani Pitt for asserting her presence on the field with some strong run-ups and improved tackling.

UNDER 9

The Mossman Under 9 team played its best footy for the year.  The team played with a united front with everyone getting even runs and spreading the ball out wide.

Lafe Hatfield had a great game with a couple of tries and strong defence.  No one ran past Ethan Chesterfield with his defence and he rewarded himself with a great try carrying over a few of the opposition with him.

Our man of the match went to birthday boy Micky Tayley.  When this boy wants to play he can turn it on and just carves up the opposition.

UNDER 11

The Under 11s' 22-0 win against Edmonton Lightning was again built on defence with the team sticking to their corridors impressively (having only concided 12 points in 4 games).

The team was led by Man of the Match Lachlan Mous who easily played his best game in a Sharks jumper, and was outstanding especially in his running.

Coach's mention to Caleb Ross and Josh Cranswick whose new home in the centres has seen a vast improvement in their confidence which is showing out on the park.

Also to Lamar Enoch who stuck by his team and played sick and Kyle Solomon who has been rock solid at fullback all year.

UNDER 12

The Under 12s played some gutsy football against a well drilled Brothers side on Saturday.

Sensational team work and attacking from the Sharks saw tries from Austin Tayley, Xavian Pitt, Phoenix Solomon, Callum Mather and Zachary Osborne (2).

Campbell Allen, William Brown and Lennox Schonenberger's defensive hits on the Brothers Blue boys stopped them in their tracks.  Successful conversions were made by Phoenix, Jayden Baldwin and Tomas Mischke which resulted in a 32-0 win for the boys.

UNDER 15

The Under 15 Sharks managed to hold on for their second win of the season holding out a fast finishing Kangaroos in front of their home crowd last Saturday at the Mossman showgrounds.

The Sharks hadn’t beaten Kangaroos since 2009 and with the Roos currently sitting second on the ladder the boys knew it was going to be a tough job to come up with a win against the current Premiers.

The Sharks had plenty of opportunity early in the game to put first points on the board but silly mistakes saw several tries go begging and the Kangaroos speed men made the Sharks pay scoring twice off their errors.

And if it wasn’t for some great cover defence from Quinny, Levi and Toddy the Roos would have had a couple more tries.

To the boys' credit they stuck to the game plan of playing in it the forwards and defending strongly out wide and before halftime the Sharks managed to score twice through Toddy and Chesty to make it 10-8 to Roos at the break.

The second half was an arm wrestle and the Sharks bad habit of dropping the ball at crucial moments was creeping in to their game and the Kangaroos looked like they were going to run away with the game.

However, the Sharks weren’t going to let that happen and through some awesome defensive efforts out wide and a spectacular try saving cover tackle from Isaac Winspear.

The game went right down to the wire and with 30 seconds left it was 28-26 to the Sharks before Jack Dickson grabbed an intercept and took Roos' last opportunity off them, to claim a well earned victory.

Try scorers were Chesty 3, Toddy and Curtis. Man of the match was Jack Dickson for his awesome defensive effort out wide.

The Under 8s had a forfeit and the Under 13s had a bye.
