Port Douglas Crocs took the long road to South Cairns on Saturday and unfortunately came home without the points in either the Senior or Reserve grade matches. 

The games were played in dry, calm conditions which resulted in a pleasing brand of football being put on display.
 
In the Seniors game Port Douglas were extremely competitive in the first half due to their quick-fire running game down the wings, which kept the ball constantly lobbing into their inside 50m zone.

Players such as Mark Nuggin, returning to the side after injury, Kurt Bradshaw and Gavin Jacks, were prominent in these two quarters but unfortunately, the lack of a tall, high-marking forward meant that the midfielders' efforts often went unrewarded.

In the second half the poor use of the ball out of the Crocs' backline led to too many turnovers and South Cairns were able to capitalise on these skill errors. 

Inevitably the pressure became too much and in the last fifteen minutes of the final quarter South Cairns were able to rattle on five unanswered goals. 
 
Crocs' supporters were heartened by Dylin Kane's game as he was returning after injury, and the knowledge that two new players have arrived in town.

RESERVES

The Port Douglas Reserves were defeated partly because of a lack of numbers.  The team played out much of the match with only sixteen players on the field and as a consequence were overwhelmed. 

It was great to see Michael Pidgeon, Kerrod Andrew and Chase Nandy play their hearts out, but as with the Seniors, the lack of a tall marking forward meant that many of their efforts went unrewarded on the scoreboard.
