Port still a world favourite
We all love a good list, and we love them even more when our region is named amongst the world's favourite destinations.
Port Douglas has pipped Cairns in Trip Advisor's Top 10 Destinations in Australia, coming in at Number 3 (Cairns was Number 4) behind Sydney (1) and Melbourne (2).
Port's restaurants were highlighted as a star attraction, and of course our beautiful natural attractions contributed to the high rating.
"Tuck into succulent five-star meals in Port Douglas, the culinary gem of Queensland, or suck down a killer cocktail at a casually swanky lounge," Trip Advisor's website read.

"A perfect base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforest at Daintree and the beaches at Cape Tribulation, this Queensland town has an out-of-this-world setting.
"Sunbathe on the golden sands of Four Mile Beach, then melt into perfect pampering at one of Port Douglas’ glorious day spas for the ultimate in relaxation."
Meanwhile, Cape Tribulation has reached even greater heights by hitting Number 4 in Lonely Planet's 'Paradises on Earth.'
"Gorgeous beaches and ancient rainforest that extends right to the water, fringing reefs, wild and beautiful animal and plant life, rock pools, mangrove boardwalks and a backdrop of breathtakingly rugged mountains are the main ingredients," Lonely Planet stated.
"Then there's the Great Barrier Reef, just 40 minutes off shore. Now you understand - it's a unique part of the world."
Despite the many challenges facing the local tourism industry currently, it's great to see the world still has our region top of mind when it's time for some R&R.
