Late goals see Dragons defeated

Douglas will look back on a night at Redlynch with huge disappointment after contesting such an even game right up until the last ten minutes when they would be punished by some superb finishing by Redlynch and leave with nothing.

Douglas arrived at Redlynch in a good frame of mind after going to Atherton, the reigning champs of the division, the week before and earning a point in an even 0-0 game.

Throughout the first half it looked as though this game may follow a similar pattern to the Atherton game as chances came and went for both teams. Most notable for Douglas in the first half was Ben Syrett who could not connect with some great wing play by Daniel Ferrero.

At the other end the Douglas keeper had to come for a few crosses and make a few standard saves but nothing that made him bring out the best of his abilities. The game went in at the half 0-0.

The second half followed the same pattern with chances few and far between and neither team were able to take advantage of any slight chance they had. As the game wore on Douglas seemed to start to lose a bit of shape and concentration, but there was nothing anyone could do about the opener. A great ball in to the box and a great back post header made it 1-0 Redlynch.

This goal came with around ten minutes left so naturally Douglas came forward searching for the goal to tie the game at 1-1, but it was Redlynch with a goal that pretty much mirrored the opener, a great ball to the back post and a solid header to make it 2-0 shortly before the end of the game.

The Douglas players themselves had been first to point out that no one had an outstanding game on Friday night and one too many average performances had probably cost them the game. However, on the night Mark Lee had a solid game out of position at left back and picked up the Paddy's Irish Bar Man Of The Match Award.

A disappointing run of form is now a reality for Douglas who have not won since the opener of the season. This Friday night a home game against Leichhardt is being billed as a must win for Douglas if they want to get back on the path for a top four spot.

The game will be Douglas' sixth of the season and they are hoping for a big turn out of local support to help get the important three points. The game kicks off at 8pm at the home field Cassowary Park.
