Junior Crocs weekend round up

UNDER 8

For any footballer you always want to play on the best grounds and for the mighty under 8’s they got that chance on Sunday to finally get to play on Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns.

After a solid warm up which involved running up and down the stairs in the stadium and climbing all over the media box’s, the boys relished to fine playing surface and definitely brought their A game.

After quick opening goals from the Hawks, Port settled with the next 4 goals to take back composure of the game. Sam “Lambert” Wall was brilliant in the middle with some telling long kicks deep into the forward line and the ruck work of Hugo” Madden” Ellison was special.

Down back and match day captain Ethan ”Maclure” Scott was tremendous putting in one of this best games for the crocs and Daniel”Hern” Harrington ran to space giving the team many options going forward.

Nippy forward Kalan”Ronnie Burns” Poole kicked two cleaver goals and the smiling assassin Tam”Muffy”Nguyen taking with some excellent chest marks and Angus “Murphy” Van Rooyan was causing plenty of headaches for the hawks with a number of dashing runs.

Coach’s awards went to Ethan, Hugo and Daniel. Special thanks to the hawks that assisted with player numbers.

UNDER 10

The Under 10’s game got off to a great start at Cazaly Stadium with Curtis Kuhlman kicking our first goal of the day.

The next goal was thanks to Tai (one of Central’s players wearing a Crocs jersey for the quarter) and then another great goal was kicked by our Slade Roberts.

The team played defensively in windy conditions and while Centrals had the numbers, the Crocs gave no sign of tiring as they marked, smothered, handballed and had plenty of possessions.

This week’s awards went to Casey West, Scott Cooper and Jacob Rich with the medal awarded to Slade Roberts.

UNDER 12

Playing against the top team in the competition was always going to be a challenge for the boys from Port Douglas but that didn’t stop them from gaining an early lead through some straight kicking from Hugo Corrie.

Despite the Crocs gaining an early lead, the City Lions were determined respond quickly and through some serious pressure applied by their midfielders and forwards, they went to the first break in front by a couple of goals.

Charlie Burns demonstrated his football abilities, initially tagging one of the opposition’s best players and allowing him almost no impact on the game. His efforts were matched by Brayden Wall who was moved into the backline to add some height and kicking strength for the Crocs.

As the game progressed the Crocs intensity lifted with Reuben, Brodey and Jack all demonstrating their tenacity in a rough battle for the ball that resulted in a goal for the boys from Port Douglas.

Despite going down to a quality opposition the Crocs can afford to hold their heads high after a game that was well fought right to the final siren. The City Lions coach even admitted post match “this was the toughest match we’ve played all year.”

Congratulations to all players for a fine team effort.

UNDER 14

Heading down to Cairns with only 18 players leaving them short with no reserves the U14's were under the pump but to their credit they rallied together and played very determined football.

Although going down by 8 goals in the end the central players were made earn every single point as the Crocs desire and pressure was relentless.

At quarter time there wasn't a lot in it but by half time were playing catch up.  The third quarter was massive as we kept them to 1 goal 1 and matched them. Still giving everything and running on empty the boys battled through  the last  quarter with a never say die attitude. Solomon Looms played his best game and should gain a lot of confidence from his performance.

Jack Laurin also had a big game across the half back line with many solid tackles creating turn overs.  At full back Hugo Walker again showed his ability to read the play and was rarely beaten in a one on one contest proving he is one of the best defenders in the league. Angus Dickson can run all day and he also tackled everything that moved as well as taking a couple of courageous marks.

Little men Daniel Cherpaloid and Brent Davidson were allusive and found themselves in space on numerous occasions. Jack Dickson and Tom Goodall were in everything and left their presence felt putting their bodies on the line and showed no fear often leaving bodies lying in their wake.

The way that these boys are playing at the moment I am sure that with our full squad and the same continued commitment to each other good things are just around the corner. A big thanks also to the people supporting us by Goal umpiring, running water and so on, it is very much appreciated.

Score:    11.9.75 to 3.6.23
Goal Scorers: Harry Brown, Brady Stewart and Tully Cartwright
Awards:  Jack Laurin, Brent Davidson, Jack Dickson and Tom Goodall

UNDER 16

With the side depleted through injury and illness the Port Douglas Under 16 Crocs have continued their quick rise in the competition.

Against the undefeated Bulldogs the boys looked to be in control of the game the whole night, despite the close score line. In wet conditions they were able to successfully win the one-on-ones around the ground and worried the Bulldogs out of a lot of football.

Unfortunately, a few lucky,  soccer goals late in the game flattered their score line.  Without a doubt,  the Crocs will take a lot the confidence from this game and  match it with any team in the competition.

Final Scores
Centrals 6-3-39 def. Port Douglas 5-4-34

Goals: 1 each to Mitch Bohm, Ashley Davidson, Aiden Alberts, Josh Harris and Casey Jakobs

Best Players: Bret McKeown, Josh Harris, Liam Edwards, Ashley Davidson
