Under 8
 
With pink Mohawks to support Pink Mother’s Day, the mighty under 8s again turned it on in front of another enthusiastic home crowd at the Croc Pit.

Right from the first bounce you could sense that the boys were right on their game. Game day captain Tam ”Kelly” Nguyen” was impressive along with Sam ”Bourke” Wall and Daniel ”Wells” Harrington both working tirelessly in the middle with some quick and effective handballs.

Up forward Kai ”Plugger” Durie was providing a handful for the Hawks' defence and was well supported by the midget brigade of Ethan ”Garlett” Scott, Kalan ”Tex” Poole and the illusive Hayden ”Milne” Caswell.

Some great goal line defence and strong marks from Colby ”Maxwell” Taylor prevented many Hawks attacks and the long clearing kicks forward from both Hugo ”Drummond” Ellison and Angus ”Bews” Van Rooyan delighted the home crowd.

Coach’s awards went to Tam, Hayden, Kai and Sam.

Under 10

Coach “Coops” was proud of the team’s efforts this week as the Under 10s played a strong game against the Cairns Hawks. 

Jamie, Scott, Harry, Geneva and Jake showed some great defensive play as did Casey, Ethan, Jacob, Dean, Sam and Anthony with the whole team demonstrating great blocks, smothers and attack on the ball. 

We welcomed Curtis to the team who showcased his talents with a solid game also.  Goal kickers were Scott Cooper 1, Sam Corrie 3.  Awards went to Curtis Kuhlman, Jacob Rich, Geneva Gilbert and this week’s medal went to Dean Laurence.
 
Under 12

The Mother’s Day round proved to be a good one for the Crocs' Under 12s. Against a highly regarded opposition in the Cairns Hawks (Yellow), the boys from Port were determined to get off to a strong start and that is exactly what they did.

Brayden Wall was superb in ruck, regularly clearing the ball from the centre bounce before midfielders Daniel Davidson and Charlie Burns sent the ball up the ground to the Crocs' forward line.

Josh Beller displayed his skills at full forward, outplaying his opponent regularly in the first quarter and allowing Port to go to an early lead.

In what turned out to be a classic team effort, players including Tyson Lynch, Billy Thompson and Leon Wren helped guide the Crocs to a solid victory.

The final score was 13.10.88 to 1.5.11 taking the Crocs to their third straight win.

Best players were Ben Muia, Hugo Corrie and Brayden Wall.

Under 14

Although going down by 15 points, the Under 14 Crocs probably played their best game yet against one of the top sides in the competition.

At the first bounce the Crocs came out firing and showed they were there to play. They were first to the ball and moved it around well with accurate kicking and good long handballs.

All who played in the backs were very committed and fought tirelessly to end many raids on our goals. They were manned up tight not leaving too many loose players to run free.

Our wings linked up well with our centre players enabling them to run in numbers delivering the ball into the forwards who were also working well together, but despite having the same amount of scoring shots as the Hawks they were unable to get as many between the right set of sticks.

Skill and fitness levels improve every week and will be needed over the next two weeks with a couple more big games. If, as on Sunday, all 22 plays give their best they will be hard to beat.

Under 16

Port Douglas Crocs vs North Cairns

Friday night’s game against the North Cairns Tigers was a real arm wrestle. Played in drizzly, slippery conditions both teams found it hard to gain any sort of ascendancy, with the lead changing several times throughout the match. 

After a number of easy matches over the past month North Cairns represented a real challenge to the lads being one of the top teams of the competition so far. 

As we progress further into the season the boys are gaining confidence, not only from a personal level but from a game-plan point of view. It was only a few little mistakes and some errors of judgment that saw the Crocs go down by a mere 9 points. 

It was obvious that we had more of the ball than our opposition but failure to capitalise on the Tigers' errors cost us the game. 

The usual suspects kept us in the game with some outstanding leadership from Charlie and Brett and supported by Liam, Ethan, Jackson and Joe. 

Although we were defeated, the signs are positive for the rest of the season and I would expect the boys will take some big scalps in the near future.
