House Hunters taken for a ride

Port Douglas will be featured in 100 countries and to over 22 million viewers of the popular House Hunters International.

The show features potential house buyers and their real estate agents checking out what's on offer in countries around the world.

The show's producers took a ride on Tallarook, the eye-catching 30 metre sailboat first launched in 1946, to get a different perspective of the lay of the land in our corner of the globe.

Tallarook's owners, Chris and Jackie Theobold, said in a difficult period for the town, the filming of the show is good news for everyone.

"We thought it was great advertising for the whole Port Douglas community," Mr Theobold said.

"We took them on a drive up to the spit, and drove up the inlet and did some shooting with the marina in the background. Sailaway was coming in, Aquarius was coming in, Lady Douglas was going out - there was a bit of action actually."

The show will be aired initially in America on the Lifestyle Channel in two or three months.

"Anything that's going to promote Port Douglas and they were trying to promote the luxury lifestyle and entice people to come back (is a good thing)," Mrs Theobold said.

"It should be good, not just for us, but for the town," she said.

Mr Theobold said shows like House Hunters International can attract people who are looking for more than just a holiday.

"That can attract all sorts of people. People who are thinking about immigrating to Australia, immigration to Port Douglas, build up a business, bring money in and it pushes the economy.

"Such a show shows people move from one country to another and viewers can say 'if they can do that, I can do that as well.' That can work for the whole community."
