Douglas Netball travelled with 5 teams to Innisfail last weekend for the Marlin Coast Fowler’s Group Carnival.  37 teams competed in 7 divisions ranging from 11/Under to Seniors. 

Innisfail produced some trying conditions over the 2 day event with rain and wind in the mornings and then firing up to hot and sunny afternoons, despite the weather the Douglas teams played some fantastic netball in all age groups. The competition was scored at 3 points a win, 2 a draw and 0 points a loss.

The stars of the weekend were the 12/Under team who came away with Runners Up in Division 4 winning 5 games, 1 draw and 2 losses, the team coached by Jodi Francis, played some brilliant netball and beat the top side (the “Radars”) of their age group with some fantastic team work.  Well Done girls!! 

The 11/Under division coached by Alex Heidke had 3 wins over the weekend and were very competitive, the girls enjoyed their netball and showed great sportsmanship, all were very keen and had some close games and all had lots of fun playing.

The 14/Under team coached by Sharon Beechey in division 3 ended with equal points for runners up but came third on the highest goal average, the team played against some very good competition the highlight being their last game of the weekend against the benchmark team the Radars who they pushed the whole game which ended in a draw, exciting to watch and a great effort by the 14s.

The Jets also coached by Sharon Beechey competed in Division 2 the girls played well winning 3 games over the carnival against some very good competition, many of these girls also played a couple of games up in the Seniors who struggled for numbers and they supported the younger teams by cheering them on.  Well done girls.

The Senior team whose numbers were made up by Junior players and mum Eryn Harold who came to watch her girls play in the Juniors ended up playing every game in the seniors in defence and excelled at it as well.  The Seniors took runners up for the Carnival.

Seniors: Corrine Durie, Jodi Francis, Zara Ryan, Natalie McKeown, Bec Nelson, Eryn Harold, Jarnie Thomas.
