Fri 1.29pm While it appears that the rain has ceased for now outside The Newsport offices, Mossman SES have advised that sandbags are available to residents. These can be collected at the Mossman Shed behind the Council offices.

Fri 11.33am Mossman South received 317mm of rain in the 24 hour period to 9am this morning, the heaviest May rain on record according to the Weather Channel.

Fri 10.22am Four Mile Beach Day will run as scheduled, Carnivale organisers have announced.

Fri 10.16am Mossman SES crews are currently attending Mossman Primary School after reports of flooding. SES crews responded to calls from 4am last night and included four homes in Port Douglas, two in Craiglie, and assisted when a man in Miallo was bitten by a snake.

Fri 10.11am The 2012 Carnivale Street Parade has been postponed until Friday 1 June. Carnivale organisers and emergency service met this morning and came to the decision.

Fri 9.59am The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, with flash flooding possible. Motorists are advised not to drive through floodwaters. Council also advises that people stay clear of stormwater drains and other waterways.

Fri 9.33am Reports are coming through that the Old Mowbray Bridge is "nearly under water", while water over Digger Bridge in Mowbray is estimated to be around 1 metre over. Owen and Mowbray Street intersection, and Mowbray and Grant Street intersection are also under water.

Fri 9.29am Port Douglas police have urged motorists to "drive to suit the conditions" as significant amounts of water sits on road surfaces and creeks swell. There have been no reports of accidents to Port Douglas police to date.

Fri 8.40am The SES has set up a base at IGA. SES are anticipating more problems as high tide approaches just after 10am this morning.

Fri 8.35am SES crews are working overtime to assist people whose homes have been flooded by torrential overnight rain.

Reports have come in that over 300mm of rain has been recorded at two separate locations in Port Douglas, making many roads impassable.
